[comp.os.minix] 1.1 ==> 1.2 : no deal

amit@umn-cs.cs.umn.edu (Neta Amit) (12/30/87)

In response to a question I recently posted to comp.os.minix, AST
mailed to me the following letter, which might be of interest to
some Minix users:

        There is no upgrade kit from 1.1 to 1.2. There was no
        registration card in 1.1, so they don't know who bought it.
        The conceptual model was that if you buy the first edition of
        a book, that doesn't give you a discount on the second edition
        compared to people who didn't buy the first edition. With the
        change from 1.2 to 1.3, we may do that differently.

While there may be logistical problems, the comparison of rapidly
changing software with relatively stable printed material is, in
my opinion, not valid. In this case, there may be some justification
 to post "official" 1.1 ==> 1.2 diffs on the more popular networks,
hoping that Minix buyers will get a fair chance to upgrade.
