[comp.os.minix] Difficulty with booting Minix

baumann@hope.UUCP (Michael Baumann) (01/04/88)

We just recently got the tape version of Minix here, and I downloaded and
am attempting to build Minix from ONLY source. After building the kernel
and a simple root file system I attempted to boot with miserable results.
First problem was a unknown trap > 16 message, which only appears once in
a while. The second is during the loading of the ram disk, things seem to
go fine for a while, then the machine gives up printing the "Type space to
reboot" message. I am running on a No Name tiawanese clone, 2 floppys, 20 meg
st225 w/ Everex (WD clone) controller, CGA. Any hints would be welcome.
NOTE: I have had no end of difficulty in attempting to compile the shell, my
compiler (an OLD version of CI C86) gags and chokes less than halfway through
the thing. Bad struct/union reference and the like.
Please E-mail responses.
thanks.
