Hello Net-Landers, I'm looking for a few words of sage advice :-) on a couple of questions. The first is easy: Is it advisable to get the user's manual? I have had the Book for a while (~3/4 of a year), and as such, it describes version 1.1. But, if I order the code now, I'll get version 1.2. If I go for the deluxe version that includes the user's manual/source description will the text describe version 1.2 or version 1.1? It would be nice to have something documenting version 1.2. The second question is more open-ended. I'm going to be trying to bring Minix up in a distributed environment. What words of advice, or pointers to references could those of you who have hacked on Minix give me? I'll be using a set of Ampro (mostly PC compatible) single board computers. They'll be linked together over a SCSI bus interface. (SCSI is multi-master message based protocol meant to drive smart peripherals - tapes, disks, etc.) I realize that I'll probably have to write a device driver for SCSI, but where else should I be looking? I'm shooting for using one processor as a file server, one for each terminal, and so forth, but I'm not too sure what part of the kernel I'll have to touch to handle remoting of services. Has anybody already had ideas on how to distribute Minix? Happy brainstorming and thanks for the info, Ed Clark AT&T Bell Labs ihnp4!ihlpf!clark Please don't make the mistake of thinking that I speak for my employers; they certainly don't.
