[comp.os.minix] 360k drive woes

#PSWHER%WMMVS.BITNET@cuvma.columbia.edu (02/11/88)

We're having some problems with Minix 1.1 and a 360k drive on a PC-AT
clone that I was wondering if anyone has seen before.

Minix boots without incident and behaves completely normally so long
as the 1.2M floppy drive is the only one used. I personally have a
PC-XT and wanted to move Minix to 360k disks for use on my system.
Things went okay until I tried to copy a number of files from
/dev/at0 (the 1.2M floppy) to /dev/fd1 (the 360k drive). After some
indeterminate amount of time, the 360k drive emits noises that some
have likened to that of a fire alarm as it tries to step past the
limit stop at either track 0 or 39. Both disks have been initialized
with properly-sized file systems (1200 and 360 respectively). I have
no problems writing files to the 360k disk if I place it in the 1.2M
drive, though it was formatted in a 360k drive on a normal double
density disk (this is as it should be...) Any ideas?
