I need help with a few things. 1. I would like to get version 1.2 of minix as my current copy is 1.1. We do not have remote login capability yet at Moravian College. How can I get a copy? 2. I have a friend who would also like 1.2 but is interested in installing it on a Leading Edge model M with a Western Digital hard disk controller card, and a Segate ST-225 hard disk. I don't have much experience with minix, and neither does he. Will 1.2 have the needed routines? If not, how can I get the routines? How difficult is it to make the system boot right off the hard disk? 3. Where can I get information on how to write drivers for minix? (tty, etc.) I am currently working on a project where we are designing and building a bus type network. It would be great to be able to write a driver which would control the RS-232 port to an extent where I could control a gateway to our network. (RS-232 to network and back again.) 4. I am also curious if anyone has written anything which controls ethernet cards. We have 8 Zenith PC compatibles connected via ethernet to a Sun fileserver. (Sun NFS protocol) It would be interesting to boot the PC's as a minix machine and make the ethernet/fileserver look like a hard disk to minix. (Some sort of remote login capability) Our PC's are connected via 3com Etherlink boards. I really appreciate the type of information provided by this mailing list. Keep up the great work!!!
