As I understand it, if you have anything other than a standard IBM PC or XT (even something as "exotic" as an AT or a PS/2), you have to buy minix and then hunt around on the net for patches that will (hopefully) allow it to work with your hardware. One of the things that has kept me from buying minix is the trouble it might take to get it running. What I'd suggest is that minix come with an installation program that queries you about your hardware (or, better yet, goes and finds out what you have), and installs all of the appropriate kernel patches. If it *doesn't* have the patch needed, it gives you a phone number to call for more information. -- The opinions expressed are my own, but you're welcome to share them.
