[comp.os.minix] Can't run MINIX on a Compatible

kyriazis@pawl13.pawl.rpi.edu (George Kyriazis) (04/17/88)

Hello. I just got MINIX V1.1, and I am trying to run it on my
PC compatible. The computer crashes when I try to insert the root file system
disk. When I press '=' it lights up the drive light and just sits there. When
I try to reboot I can't. I have to open the drive door first and then reboot
(????). That certainly seems strange to me, and I'll be very thankful if
someone can help me. I tried to boot off a norma IBM PC and there were no
problems, so the software is fine.

My configuration is:
-Some generic Turbo PC compatible (I know, it doesn't help too much,
but the only programs I can't run so far are BASICA and Turbo-C)
	-CGA
-MultiFunction card with FDC, RS-232, paralle, clock and game ports
	-Hayes 1200 internal modem
	-8087
-MiniScribe 30MB hard disk with half-length WD controller
	-Mouse Systems serial mouse
