[comp.os.minix] Why you should get v7 compatability before going to 2.10BSD compatability

bandy@well.UUCP (Andrew Scott Beals) (05/14/88)

Some people who have forgotten their unix history ask why those intent
on making Minix into a useful os should even bother trying to reach
the goal of compatability with Unix version 7.	The reason is that
v7 came long before and was the base for 2BSD unix. V7 was the last
great release of Research Unix. V7 is what most people write their
programs for (those striving for portability).

It is very good that some folks have a goal of 2BSD compatability - just
remember that the best route to get there is to get V7 compatability
first.
