From: wales at UCLA-Security (Rich Wales) Date: 30 April 1982 1251-PDT (Friday) Does anyone know of any research -- completed, in progress, or planned -- aimed at enhancing the performance of UNIX on either the VAX 780 or 750 by implementing new instructions in microcode? If so, I would like to get in touch with whoever is doing it. If no one is working on this, I would like to know that fact. Please send any replies directly to me (wales at UCLA-Security), since we have been having some problems with USENET here, and I might not get a reply if it is sent only to UNIX-WIZARDS. -- Rich Wales

I don't know if this is a Unix enhancement but someone in the EECS department here was talking about enhancing their 780 with some Pascal P-code (in microcode) so that UCSD Pascal would run faster (under Unix). Forward into the Past!
