My DEC Rainbow has been collecting dust for some time, so I haven't been keeping up with news in the Rainbow world. I just dug it out of the closet and reinstalled its hard disk, so I have some catching up to do. However, I have been watching the Minix world closely. I'm waiting for Minix for my other computer, an Atari ST. It occurred to me that the Rainbow is an 8088 machine, and someone might have cooked up a version of Minix for it, too. Wouldn't that be delightful, if I could have the same system on both of my toys? I ported an operating system (QNX) from the IBM PC to the Rainbow a couple of years ago, so I know there is a lot involved. I think the hardest part is trying to talk to the Z80 to convince it to handle the floppy disks for you. I ended up writing entirely new Z80 code. The upshot is that I'm not considering doing this port myself. But, if someone else is doing or has done it, I'd like to hear about it. -- Gerry Wheeler Phone: (519)884-2251 Mortice Kern Systems Inc.
