Well flame me if you like but please help me as well! I just bought my first computer, a Packard Bell 80286 semi-ibm compatible, and it has Ms-dos 3.21 on it. I wnat a real operating system to work with and I want to pay nothing for it! ( I is nothing but a lowly broke student again ) MINIX seems to be my best bet but I dont know how to get it. I have a MINIX fileserver (or some such thing) which had all sorts of neat patches and upgrades and tools and stuff but it did not seem to have the source or executable for starting out. Could some kind soul out there in NETLAND point me in the right direction? I do not have access to an INTERNET so annonomous ftp is no good to me. As an aside, and of interest to some, on my harddisk resides a program called EBL (Extended Batch Language) [yeah, I bought a slightly used computer, so whats it to ya]. This is a nifty language which makes MS-DOS almost likeable. It has stacks, screen management, if-then-else statements, and gotos (yuck) and 15 extra global variables (%A to %O). I am sure that there is much more to this yet but as I said I have not had this machine for very long. Has anybody else heard of this? I would appreciate some comments as to its usefullness. It sounds great, but I am a little doubtful. What I would like to do is do some background jobs but I dont think it has that capability. Any help on either of these topics would be greatly appreciated. E-mail me and I will summarize if there seems enough interest.
