My local Prentice-Hall representative just passed the word back to me that Minix 1.3 will not be in stock until early February 1989. So much for my hope that I could at least get it from them by the end of the calender year. So I've ftp'ed all the stuff across from bugs.nosc.mil (and a tip of the hat to Broman for a lot of hard work in maintaining those files). I appear to have all the 1.2->1.3a->1.3b->1.3c->1.3x stuff. Along the way, however, I have also been reinventing the wheel (finding about what "Bitnet munging" means, etc). So it is going to be very difficult to get an up-and-running system up by the first of the year. The above whining is by way of a plea -- all I really need is a Minix system with the networking code, so that I can give my graduate Computer Science class some real code to work with, rather than just exercises from the book. Can someone *please* -- even *pretty please* give me a shortcut to just getting that up? Will the Amoeba stuff go directly into 1.2 without the need for other changes? If not, what other changes are required. Please E-mail to "jnall@fsu" on bitnet. Thanks. John Nall Computer Science Department Florida State University 904-644-5241
