From: mark at UCLA-Security (Mark Kampe) Date: 25 May 1982 0916-PDT (Tuesday) At the summer 1977 users' group meeting in Champaign-Urbana, I stayed with Steve Holmgren (as did Ken). One night, we were bs'ing about absurd things and I asked Ken about the "amusing etymology". His reply was .. ... Jesus! The worst user interface ever concieved! It stood for "Delete from SWitches". The memory was apparently a painful one for him, and he did not explain to me exactly what the user interface was - but I believe that the "SWitches" refers to the pdp/11 switch register. The rest is left as an exercise to the reader. ---mark---
