[comp.os.minix] Minix spelling dictionary

broman@schroeder.nosc.mil (Vincent Broman) (10/27/88)

Around January, AST posted a potentially very useful speller's
dictionary, aggregated from a number of public sources. This has
been assembled in compressed form in the bugs.nosc.mil Minix archives
after correction of a few slipups. (Is that a word? :-)
The 12-bit-compressed list of 43k words amounts to about 189kbytes.

Changes were made for words which failed the Unix spell command,
(both American and British variants), were not in my own vocabulary,
and were not in the American Heritage Dictionary. These included typos,
some nonstandard inventions, non-English computer jargon,
some less common abbreviations, and some compounds that shouldn't be
compounded. So, corrected entries for these words were made:

Still, with this small polish, it should prove helpful to some.
