Around January, AST posted a potentially very useful speller's dictionary, aggregated from a number of public sources. This has been assembled in compressed form in the bugs.nosc.mil Minix archives after correction of a few slipups. (Is that a word? :-) The 12-bit-compressed list of 43k words amounts to about 189kbytes. Changes were made for words which failed the Unix spell command, (both American and British variants), were not in my own vocabulary, and were not in the American Heritage Dictionary. These included typos, some nonstandard inventions, non-English computer jargon, some less common abbreviations, and some compounds that shouldn't be compounded. So, corrected entries for these words were made: ablute birchen disagreing headend powerset's accessor bited dispell headends powersets accusal bringed dispells hellman pragmat acia c'c distritbute hubcab prog affector campusses distritbuted inc protestor aires casted distritbutes inheritress protestor's alden catched distritbuting inheritress's protestors alleviater chattererz effector inheritresses purchaseable allotter corporacies effector's khi repayed animized corporacy effectors lapb sdlc anomic deathrate eviller mouthe sealevel artifactually deathrate's excresence nanosec shes ave deathrates exhaustable nondeterminacy silkine backbend delim extendable objecter sticken ballgown dept farth pcm suppressen beechen destuff feeded postoffice thrusted bely destuffing gsize postoffice's transceive benefitted destuffs guarantine postoffices undergos benefitting differen hdlc powerset weeped Still, with this small polish, it should prove helpful to some.
