A friend and I have finally decided to get into home computing with the ability to run UN*X. I have been reading this group with increasing interest for some time now and would like to get some basic background information. 1. What is the name of the book Andy Tanenbaum wrote and any specifics to help in ordering a copy. 2. What are the basic hardware requirements to build and run MINIX. Just the machine independent answers for this question. 3. I understand MINIX will run on the PC, XT & AT machines and recently on the Atari ST. Are there any other machines it is ported to or will be ready for shortly(~3 months). 4. Of the currently supported machines, are there any specific hardware or software requirements. Like memory, disk space, controllers, etc. 5. Are there any archive, UUCP, etc sites for MINIX related software or other information. A know a lot of you already know the answers to many of these questions, but us beginners need to get started somewhere. Besides I want to have some information to make a decision with before I start spending my $$$. Either post or email, I'll summarize what I get for any other beginners out there.
