I've ftp'ed the D1.2-1.3.tar.Z file from bugs.nosc.mil down to our local complex. The file itself shows up on an ls-l as length 885036. However, when I did a "compress -d D1.2-1.3.tar.Z" on it, it never finished. I finally stopped it, and a D1.2-1.3.tar file of about length 90000+ had been generated. I did the same thing, with the same results. Also tried it on a Vax and a Sun. Finally, downloaded another compress program (from bugs.nosc.mil). When I tried it on D1.2-1.3.tar.Z, it quit with a message saying "corrupt input". QUERY: Most likely I brought some garbage down, but before I try it again -- since it is a very long file -- has anyone else brought that file down and uncompressed (and untarred) it??? If I don't get any response within a few days, I'll just try again, I guess. John Nall (jnall@fsu) Computer Science Dept Florida State University

We had problem downloading the files too. But the problem for us was that our version of compress had problems. We downloaded another copy of compress and had no problems. The length when have on our system is 885031, which is different from the count you gave. Try FTPing again, but try using binary mode. -Paul Dickson

Here's the result for me: -rw-r--r-- 1 jds 1792000 Oct 29 20:12 d1.2-1.3.tar It took under a minute to uncompress on a lil' Sun 3/50; you shouldn't have had a problem on a Vax. - Jaime ---------------------------------------------------------------------- path: uunet!mimsy!jds James da Silva domain: jds@mimsy.umd.edu

With all the talk about FTP (no, I know what FTP is...:-)), is there a site somewhere that can make available the 1.2-->1.3c diffs via anon uucp. I don't have the fortune of being *ON* the Internet thus I can't FTP. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance, Mark. -- Mark J. Bailey "Y'all com bak naw, ya hear!"
