OK, so you think you want a faster machine. Well before you pump more cash into your existing PC, consider the following: I have been running MINIX on IBM PCs and ATs for several months now, and have tried out a variety of hardware combinations. An out of the box PC or AT 339 have no problems. I have added an INTEL in-board 386 card to the AT, and all seems fine. I added an AST HOT-SHOT (80286 @ 10 MHz) to the PC, and all was fine. (Note: the HOT-SHOT can be set to boot off of the 8088 or the 80286; I only tried MINIX off off the 8088...) I have finally tried an INTEL in-board 386 PC card on the PC (80386 @ 16MHz) and can no longer boot MINIX. I get fistfuls of floppy disk read errors, and an eventual lockup. I plan to try some of the published 80386 patches which throw timing loops into floppy.c, and see if that solves it. If anyone has already gone down this road with a turbo clone, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks in advance. -John
