[comp.os.minix] Accelerator Boards

jeff@questar.QUESTAR.MN.ORG (Jeff Holmes) (12/30/88)

My XT-compatible running Minix 1.2 is agonizingly slow.

Has anyone had any luck with accelerator boards that
	Minix will work with?

If so, are there any recommendations? (I'm just looking
for 286 speed so I can keep the cost down and have a
	better chance at compatibility).

	Thanks in advance.

Yes, I have seen it boot up using a Microsoft Mach 20 board
with no attached memory. As it was someone elses machine I
only tried it with the out of the box 1.2 version. Unfortunately
this (the Mach 20) is one of the slowest axxelerator boards
around, but very compatable. Beware, however, that after you add
the accelerator board, extra memory daughter boards, etc. you
have paid for a 286 clone, less the hard drive.

Works with the Orchid turbo board, too. But you'll need a 1.2 or better
hard disk driver.
