I'm in the process of trying to make a recommendation to the Computer Science Department here how the Operating Systems course should be structured. My own preference is to use Andy's MINIX textbook, and to cover only the theory and "overview of how it's done in MINIX" in lecture, while assigning some hefty programming assignments which involve modifying the operating system. I mention that it will be a lot easier to do the assignments if they read the "implementation in MINIX" part of the book, but don't cover it in class. Just makes too much material to cover in one semester. Given that introduction, could I get some ideas from you other guys (and ladies, too, when applicable) as to how you are teaching using MINIX (for O/S courses)? I'd be glad to send everyone who bothers to reply a copy of my synopsis (not much of a reward, but the best that I can do....). Thanks, and please e-mail to jnall@rai.fsu.edu, or I can also be reached on Arpa-Internet with nall@nu.cs.fsu.edu
