I want to add my views to the debate on posting binaries or sources and the advisability of splitting the newsgroup. MINIX is primarily an educational OS in the sense that it's a facility by which one can get acquainted with the intricacies of designing an OS without being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of any commercial OS. From that point of view the sources are extremely important and should be posted along with the binaries. If I need an efficient OS and no need to know how that efficiency is acheived, I wouldn't use MINIX; there are plenty others to work with. But that doesn't necessarily mean that posting of binaries would hurt anybody. If one doesn't want to use the binaries without source, she/he may simply ignore that. I don't see any reason to split the newsgroup; we can always make choices for ourselves. .. Pradip Srimani, Southern Illinois University

I for one am opposed to splitting the newsgroup. The j and k keys (in rn) are very effective for not reading stuff that is not of interest. -- Ken Firestone UUCP: ...!allegra!mimsy!aplcen!kenf1 ARPA: kenf1@aplcen.apl.jhu.edu
