(VT52 does NOT send DC3/DC1 characters for flow control; VT100 does.)

Apart from the use of control characters being a poor naive-user interface,
ESC, DC1..4 are RESERVED for device control according to ANSI standards and
common usage. Several other control characters also have meaning during
various forms of data communication, even if you're running a screen editor
at the time. None of these characters should be used in a portable program
product.

Nay, I say, and nay again! The VT52 *does* occasionally send ^S/^Q on its own
initiative.  This led to fits when I ran an old Rand Editor at 9600 baud;
every now and again it asked me what to "Search" for.
