I'm sorry, but I'm not to up on what Minix 1.3 has over the last version. Could someone please mail me and highlight the improvements that 1.3 offers. Also, I'm interested in finding out what other people use as developmental tools on Minix. Is vi available? a debugger etc... Thanks, Patrick Tully pstully@ucdavis.edu

1.3 was a big improvement over 1.2. Compare the USER_GUIDE for 1.3 with the read_me for 1.2. The EGA cards in AT clones would not work correctly with 1.2 and thus these computers were useless until I upgraded to 1.3. With 1.3, the root file system may be kept on a hard disk (It also could in 1.2 if you modified source code). The serial port may be used with Kermit in 1.3. Vi is called Stevie and was posted in Dec. but AST has not accepted it yet even though it works fine for me (but is missing a few features of the real vi). A debugger has been posted also but it requires some work to install so I haven't done it. AST also didn't accept it. The debugger requires modifying the kernel and it might not be fully compatible with future modifications by AST.
