Thanks to David Hayes for his kind offer of access to a copylefted patch. Unfortunately, this runs a bit expensive and difficult for a lot of people. Would it perhaps be a good idea to post it? The usual problem; how to avoid multiple copies? But, this is a tool that will be very useful to MINIXers everywhere.... -- Bob Eager rde@ukc.UUCP ...!mcvax!ukc!rde Phone: +44 227 764000 eXs s s

What's so expensive about getting patch via UUCP? I just looked, the compressed source is about 57k. If you call at 1200 baud, it will take about 8.5 minutes to transfer. Late-night rates are about 20 cents per minute anywhere in the United States, so the cost to get patch is under two dollars. My modem also supports 2400 baud v22.bis. If you call at 2400, your cost to get patch is under one dollar. -- David S. I ported Larry Wall's "patch" program to my Minix system. The source required a little work ("Configure" won't run with Minix's expr and I don't yet have Minix "sed"), and the result seems to work. I'd like to know if there is an *official* version of "patch" for Minix. -Frank

I've just obtained the 1.2 -> 1.3d upgrade from bugs. How do I go about installing it? From what I've seen in the doc files that came with it, I'd guess that I copy the 1.2 sources to my hard disk, rearrange the stuff as per the 'rearrange' script, and then just untar the upgrade kit over the 1.2 sources (with overwriting on). But what does the diff.patch file do? From looking at it, it appears to be a cdiff file. How do I use it? If I had to do the upgrades piecemeal (i.e., patch minix/commands, compile it, move it to a floppy, patch minix/fs, etc.), how would I use the diff.patch file? -- Marc Unangst UUCP : mju@mudos.ann-arbor.mi.us UUCP bang : ...!uunet!sharkey!mudos!mju UUCP bang alt.: ...!{ames, rutgers}!mailrus!clip!mudos!mju Internet : mju@mudos.ann-arbor.mi.us
