[comp.os.minix] Minix 1.3 compress.c

jeff@questar.QUESTAR.MN.ORG (Jeff Holmes) (03/30/89)

	Hi,

I've posted a couple of times about problems with 1.3 compress.c.

I've also heard of others who have the same problem that I do.
(compress compiles but doesn't run right).

Would it be possible for someone to mail me their current
1.3 source for compress. Then I can forward it to the others.
Maybe the copy on bugs has a problem with it, or the transfer
munged the file, or we missed a patch (though ast's crc shows
	it's the same).

	Thanks

	Hi,

I've been trying for about 2 months now to get 1.3 compress
working with no luck. I compiled it on our Pyramid under
4.2 BSD and it compiled and ran with NO changes so I'm
beginning to wonder if it isn't a problem with too little
memory. After much testing it seems as though the problem
occurs in cl_hash() /* clear hash table */ but I have no
clue as to what the problem is. I was wondering if a few
of you who have compress working could tell me how much
available memory you have. I've pared my ram disk down to
110K so I've got about 412K available (this is on a 640K PC).
I'm about ready to give up because I'm getting nowhere with
this and I'd really appreciate some help.

	Thanks

Re: Problems running Compress 1.3 under Minix

I had the same problems when I tried to use them under MSDos.
I tried many C compilers and then gave it up by now.
Perhaps this is the same problem?
