Greeting, I am about buy a 386 box. The controller that comes with it is a NCL A 5525. It is a combo hard and floppy controller. Has anyone had any experience with this controller? If not could someone email or post the test using dd that lets you know if minix and your hd will get along. Thanks, Matt gutherz@jove.rutgers.edu

It is a combo hard and floppy controller. I had a bout with one of those integrated hard/floppy controlers early this quarter. Another student has an ATclone that uses a Western Digital board that has both hard and floppy controlers. Minix will not run, even with the ROM wini. I think it is because of interrupt or DMA lines; the board does appear to have separate sections for each controler. The problem might be solved by using (ugh) a ROM floppy (i.e. make rom_wini also support floppies). Will any other multitasking OSes run with that board (like XENIX or OS/2)? I haven't tried anything else with the WD board. -- Glen Overby <ncoverby@plains.nodak.edu> uunet!ndsuvax!ncoverby (UUCP) ncoverby@ndsuvax (Bitnet)
