[comp.os.minix] Upgrade 1.1 to 1.4a for Tandy 1000A using Turbo-C 2.0 ???

weyrich@csun1.UUCP (Orville Weyrich) (05/19/89)

I now have one of the original Minix distribution tapes
(version 1.1 I presume, but how do I tell?).

I need to upgrade it to the most recent version, but I need it to run
on a Tandy 1000A and on a 386 box.

The Minix distribution tape does not include the C compiler, so I guess
that I need to use Turbo-C, which I do have.

The upgrades require changes, running on the Tandy 1000A requires changes,
and using Tubro C 2.0 requires changes.

Does anyone have any advice on the best way to go about this? I have access
to a Sun running SunOS 3.4 which I can use for doing diffs, etc, but I
obviously can't compile on the Sun, and downloading the files after each
change to test things out seems to make the tedious job even more so.

How hard is it to get the various tools to run under MS-DOS so that I can
do the whole thing on my PC?
Has anyone done this that can help me out on this?

Is it legitimate to ask someone to mail me the compiler source
(not all of MINIX)? If it is, would someone volunteer please?

Does anyone have the diffs to do what I want to do directly?

Any/all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
