[comp.os.minix] bugs.nosc.mil ?

weyrich@csun1.UUCP (Orville Weyrich) (05/20/89)

I have been trying for three days (nights, actually) to ftp to bugs.nosc.mil
using the command "ftp 128.49.0.1" but the only response I ever get is
"connect: connection timed out".

Ftp works to other sites (such as louie).

I also tried to mail a request to minix-server@bugs.nosc.mil to send SUBJECTS
but have gotten no response.

Question #1 Is there something wrong with the the way I am trying to ftp bugs?

Question #2 Is it normal to have this much trouble getting onto bugs?

Question #3 If some kind soul has a copy of SUBJECTS from the Minix area
of bugs, would they please email it to me?

Question #4 Is there somewhere else that I can ftp from that has what
I need to upgrade Minix 1.1 to 1.3? Since I my 1.1 distribution is on mag-tape
I also need to get the compiler binaries. I also need to get the patches
for using Turbo C 2.0 and for the Tandy 1000.

Thanks in advance.

You must have an old address. Ping tells me:

	[mimsy 7] ping bugs.nosc.mil
	PING bugs.nosc.mil (128.49.16.1): 56 data bytes
	64 bytes from 128.49.16.1: icmp_seq=0. time=699. ms
	64 bytes from 128.49.16.1: icmp_seq=1. time=706. ms

Indeed, I just tried ftp'ing over to 128.49.16.1, and it works fine for me.

Vince turned off his e-mail minix-server a long time ago. FTP is all
there is from bugs these days.

This is an easy one for me, because we have "named" the name server daemon
running here. Your probably not privy to this so I'll run it for you by
banging out of vi just now

"nslookup bugs.nosc.mil"
Server: iris613
Address: 0.0.0.0

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: bugs.nosc.mil
Address: 128.49.16.1

Gee, I wonder if that 16 had anything to do with it.

"ping 128.49.16.1 1 1"

PING 128.49.16.1 (128.49.16.1): 1 data bytes
9 bytes from 128.49.16.1: icmp_seq=0

----128.49.16.1 PING Statistics----
1 packets transmitted, 1 packets received, 0% packet loss

Hope this helps.
