Date: 23 Jun 1982 1133-PDT For all those interested in the poor man's network, the new version of chat is now available. Chat (as you may or may not recall) is the only program to my knowledge that claims the ability to talk to any computer over an rs232 line from a unix. What is really new is the chat ftp mode which was designed to automate the chat procedure for file transfer. Thus chat is now also ftp to any computer (a limited ftp at least). The current version includes a much enhanced and improved chat program that is much quicker and more reliable and the ftp routines. Unfortunately there is no guarentee on ftp (or chat for that matter) and there is now a small fee for the pair. I might note that these two programs have been running and improving for about six months now and are quite stable and good at what they do (and poor at what they don't do). If you or anyone you know is interested, please mail me or have them mail me (on the arpanet please) requesting further information. Fred -------
