[comp.os.minix] cannot get patch and pdtar to work

    I ftp'ed the files patch and pdtar from bugs.nosc.mil in an attempt to
upgrade minix from v1.2 to v1.3.  When the files were transferred to minix,
they won't run and produce a "cannot execute" error.
    I used binary mode for all file tranfers.  The size and checksum (4.3BSD)
for both files are:

	    sum         size
	    ---         ----
patch   16616 15        30626
pdtar   64145 13        26478

    Am I doing something wrong in transferring the files, or are the files
on bugs.nosc.mil bad?
