[comp.os.minix] C News on Minix?

henry@utzoo.uucp (Henry Spencer) (07/03/89)

Minix users might be interested in picking up C News from comp.sources.unix.
(Andy had actually asked us to see that it was cross-posted to the Minix
group, but that particular request got lost somewhere between us and the
c.s.u. moderator. Sorry about that; we had some mailer problems that are
probably to blame.) This is a freely-redistributable netnews system that
is both faster and cleaner than B News.  It ought to run fine under Minix;
in particular, it does not need >16 bits of address space.

(Actually, I can think of one possible problem: C News does use the "+"
modes of fopen(), which were present but *undocumented* in V7 and hence
[if my recollection is correct] did not make it into the original Minix.
Fixes for that have appeared here, I believe.)
