When I sent to minix@ndsuvm1 earlier this year, it was archived but it did not seem to be sent out. Perhaps this message which is being sent to info-minix@udel.edu will be distributed.

I am attaching a question I sent out a few days ago; to date I haven't seen either the original or any replies, although I notice it's on the archives. BTW I'm now almost certain the problem is due to incompatibilities in the floppy disk controller, although I don't (yet) have the tech. ref. manual to find out -- any help would be appreciated. I tried Kurt Vangsness' fixes for the 6300+ with no success - apparently the 6300WGS is a totally different beast. - Pete --------------------- Original Message ---------------------------- Date: Mon, 10 Jul 89 09:40:11 EST From: Peter Flass <EPRF@SNYCENVM> Organization: SUNY Empire State College Subject: AT&T 6300 WGS To: minix-l@ndsuvm1 I am having trouble running MINIX 1.2 on my AT&T 6300WGS (8086 CPU). My system is set up with a 720k 3.5" flopy as drive A: and a 360k 5.25" as drive B:. When I first got the system I experienced few problems copying the boot disk and root filesystem to 3.5" disks (using image copy device to device). I have sucessfully booted the system and run several times. However, I am sometimes have a great deal of trouble booting. The system appears to load succesfully. I get the fsck menu and can check and list my root filesys with no problem. However when I press = to load the root the "A:" drive light comes on and the cursor changes shape and drops to the bottom of the screen but the file system will not load. F1 and F2 still work and show INIT active, but I'm effectively hung up. This does not happen all the time, but is a frequent occurrence. What's more, I don't know what is different the times the system will boot! Does anyone have any clues? I'm trying to use this system to upgrade to 1.3 and apply other fixes that have been floating around the net, but I'm stuck. Thanks for any help. - Pete +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | | | PETER FLASS BITNET: EPRF@SNYCENVM (PREFERRED) | | DIRECTOR OF COMPUTING SERVICES INTERNET: ESCFLASS@UBVM.CC.BUFFALO.EDU | | SUNY EMPIRE STATE COLLEGE AT&TNET: (518)587-2100 X350 | | 2 UNION AVENUE | | SARATOGA SPRINGS NY 12866 "THIS SPACE FOR RENT" | | | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
