What's the status of the Minix hard-disk driver on the 8 Megahertz genuine PC=AT. When I got my V1.1 system (way back) I rewrote the winchester driver. I renamed the registers to something more meaningful (WIN_REGn is not meaningful to me), did subtle things like changing MAX_WIN_RETRY from 10000 to 10 (I don't thing 10000 is reasonable) and found parts of the winchester code which did not seem to agree with the specs for the PC-AT disk controller. I also took out the partition sorting [I've never been able to comprehend how DOS fdisk and Minix number partititions]. The result has worked fine on 6 and 8 Mhz PCs, Wyse PCs and Compaq PCs (including 386). I had to do the initial work on floppy disks to get Minix going (good lord!!). I just cleaned off the hard disk of an 8 Mhz PC-AT to start doing minix development (actually I want to get Minix going on my sun386i). I have v1.3b which does work fine on 6Mhz AT. Have any changes been made since then to support 8 Mhz AT. I'm somewhat disheartened the changes have not made their way back into the distribution. I'm perfectly willing to analyze what I'm doing against what the distribution is doing. If anyone wants to look at the AT driver and help resolve this problem, I'll send it out via mail. Can someone please send me: 1) a current copy of the AT winchester driver (I'm not sure these days what current means) -- the newest one I have is 1.3b. 2) a uuencoded kernel with the BIOS based driver (I kinda can't do anything reasonable until I install Minix on my hard disk and the distribution I have won't run off the hard disk). marty ARPA: leisner.henr@xerox.com GV: leisner.henr NS: leisner:wbst139:xerox UUCP: hplabs!arisia!leisner
