[comp.os.minix] Init login and other short stories...

SQ79%liverpool.ac.uk@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk (Mark Powell) (08/14/89)

Anyone got a decent version of init and login that actually setup the rs232
properly.
I got the nice new kernel alltar, applied all the patches. But where are the
patches to the library (needed to use HAVENEWFLOP) and init/login.
Problems: I'm not sure whether init setsup the rs232 properly
Login will only exec /bin/sh on login. How am I supposed to have

uucp:<deleted-for-security-reasons>:40:40:Uucp:/usr/spool/uucp:/usr/lib/dcp

          in my passwd file?
          Where is accounting? /etc/wtmp?

I know I can find all of the above in various patches, but an (un)official
posting of an entire ST-Minix upgrade would be most welcome. This could
all the new code for speeding up the system etc, but also with patches for
the library and commands directories. This could be the unofficial
ST-Minix 1.4 (I think ST-Minix should be brought upto at least the PC level, to
ease the porting of code.)
Why don't I do this myself you may be asking????
Well... to do all of that from my floppy system would probably take me
a couple of years. I think this is a bit too long to wait. Maybe some Minix
tycoon, with a hard disk could do all of this, and post his/her handy work
to the net? Just a thought. I should be getting a harddisk in about a weeks
time, so I'll get to work on it then.
Cheerio, for now...
