[comp.os.minix] version control for MINIX

LANCER%GACVAX1.BITNET@cunyvm.cuny.edu (Lance A. Brown) (09/13/89)

Hi all:
I have read of several references to a version control system for
MINIX. What is it? How big is it? and how do I get it? Also, does it compile
under MINIX?

thanks, Lance Brown

There is a system called SVC, written by Peter Housel. It will be included
in 1.4b and subsequent versions.

Any chance on bringing up RCS?

The RCS programs are not large, but they do require an RCS compatible diff.

RCS even runs on Ms/Dos.

I think it may be doable in 64k code/64k data provided a good diff and diff3 is available.

RCS is already running under Minix/ST. I did a port and posted the
(minimal) changes required. I've no idea if it will run in 64k + 64k.
Also my version is not the latest and the greatest.
Haven't found time to upgrade yet.

The diff I use is the diff from Gnu. I don't recall if I also use their
diff3. However RCS is quite usable without diff3.

I did that some time ago, and RCS works very nicely under Minix PC.
I'll be bringing it up to the latest release of RCS shortly, and when
I've done that I'll be happy to post the diffs.

True enough. I took the standard Minix diff and changed it slightly to
work with RCS. It was a very simple change.

That's right, and so does mine, but the limit in file name lenght and
component characters is a pain... :-)

This is where I haven't got it quite finished yet. I don't have a
working diff3 under Minix, but then I haven't really missed it yet.
Maybe later...
