I would like to know if there is a 680x0 compiler that runs under the PC version of MINIX. I imagine that the ST compiler would be sufficient for my needs, but has anyone ported it to PC-MINIX? The reason I am asking is because I recently acquired a 68000 based Omnibyte single board computer. It has a couple of serial ports and 512K of memory and I would like to port MINIX to it. Is the source code for such a beast available for a modest feed? Any help with these items would be *GREATLY* appreciated. UniPress and Transmediair are selling the Atari compiler. It is just a C program, and ought to run on a PC, with the possible problem of it not fitting in memory. I'm not sure how big it would be if compiled to the 8088 machine language. Andy Tanenbaum (ast@cs.vu.nl)

It's written by Matthew Brandt, and it looks like it's small enough to compile under PC-Minix. I think it would require only a minor bit of tweaking to output code that could assemble with the assembler from ST-Minix. Of course, if you want a complete cross-development system, you'd need the source for the ST's as and ld. -- Guy Helmer AT&T: (605) 256-5315 Dakota State University Computing Services (605) 256-6411 BITNET: HELMER@SDNET

I have only tried it once or twice, but it looks very good (for PD). The documentation states clearly that it is the intended goal of the developers to make it work under Minix-ST. Has anybody heard anything about that ? Any news ? ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bitnet: VBRANDT@DBNUAMA1 (will go away late '89) Volker A.
