Hello MINIX-World, here are results from a VAX 8800 under VMS 5.1 and VAX-C. The source was compiled without any changes. Dhrystone(1.1) time for 50000 passes = 7 This machine benchmarks at 7142 dhrystones/second The following result comes from the Dhrystone benchmark enclosed in the MINIX-sources (directory /usr/src/test), on the same vax Dhrystone(1.1) time for 500000 passes = 33 This machine benchmarks at 15151 dhrystones/second (I am only a simple user with no special privileges an an low priority) Has anyone an idea about the difference (about factor 2) ? The values for MINIX-ST 1.1 are (dhrystone from /usr/src/test): Dhrystone(1.1) time for 50000 passes = 96 This machine benchmarks at 520 dhrystones/second With an 68020-Enhancement-board (PAK-68 from c't) dhrystone is about 10% faster due to the influence of its cache memory and the optimized instruction times.
