Some may be interested to see this letter from a Japanese Minix User to whom I had sent a magtape of the NOSC Minix archives ... Dear Sir: We have safely received magtape and separate cover. We wish to set up this archive in JUNET and NIKKEI-MIX with your permission. There are some hundreds of Minix freaks in NIKKEI-MIX and JUNET in Japan. But almost all of the postings of the comp.os.minix have been lost in JUNET. So our reachable articles about Minix are restricted to some Prentice-Hall editions, CUG-z04 disks, and Compuserve archives. There are few IBM PC and Atari ST in Japan. We have just ported Minix v1.3 to the NEC-PC98xx, Epson-PC*86, and TOSHIBA J-3100 and are making drivers for Japanese KANJI I/O. The original Minix v1.3 works on the TOSHIBA J-3100 SGT101 with no change and on J-3100SL, J-3100GT, and J-3100 SGT041 with some HD patches. There are many works yet to be done for other Japanese machines. We are mad with joy with so many articles. With my sincere thanks, Mrs. Saeko Hirabayashi NIKKEI-MIX/MINIX SIG-OP. Next time I pass through Shiojiri (it's a cute provincial city on the train line from Tokyo to Matsumoto) I'll peer out the window for a glimpse of Saeko and her friends raging in the streets. Andy T has a lot to answer for. -- _______ Jim Breen (jwb@cit5.cit.oz) Department of Robotics & /o\----\\ \O Digital Technology.
