Ok, recently I have learned of (in more detail) a program called MINIX. It is some sort of Version 7 UNIX clone for PC's. What I am looking for is where I can get a copy of the latest version of this software..(do I hear a few groans out there? :) From my understanding, the latest version is 1.5.0. I have also heard that the software also supports protected mode on an AT computer. Is this a part of the 1.5.0 software release? I have also heard that there is a book that explains about operating systems that was designed to be used with minix. Any idea what the name of the book is? I hate to beat a dead horse, and I know that these questions have been asked many times before, but this is a new subject to me. I want to run MINIX because my computer failed miserably to run XENIX. Some hardware incompatability (damn clones...) *** About getting the programs; 1) I have NO ftp access anywhere... 2) I have access to BITNET and I could get it piecemeal from a listserver somewhere...(ugh, minix is large, n'est-ce-pas?) 3) If someone would be willing to send it to me on floppy disk, then I could mail them 1.2M floppies to copy the files onto. About my system... I have an 12MHz AT system with a VEGA VGA card, color moniter, 1.2M 5.25" drive A and a 1.44 3.5" drive B. I have a 42M ST251-1 formatted to 65.5M using a 1:1 RLL DTC AT drive controller. Finally, I have a 2400 baud internal modem and a 80287 coprocessor. I am running dos 4.01. Is is possible to run Minix on this system and still be able to use all this hardware effectively? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your consideration.
