[comp.os.minix] Another VGA Problem Paradise/Western Digital Chip Set

laefsky@eniac.seas.upenn.edu (Ira M. Laefsky) (01/19/90)

I am running rev 1.1 minix. While I have the upgrade files through 1.3
I can't do the compiles for the upgrade until I can see the results of my
typing displayed on my VGA monitor.

The system is an OSICOM More 286-12Mhz clone which uses a Faraday chipset
motherboard and provides VGA video through a Western Digital chipset which
emulates a Paradise VGA Board with 256K ram. My problem is that after I boot
Minix and perform any command which produces more than about 10 lines of
output (such as a "ls- al") everything after the the first 10 lines is
displayed to a "non-screen" location after 1 or 2 more screenfuls of output
the screen returns. While I have compiled a Turbo-C program to set the VGA
mode I do not know how to lock this mode after a warmboot.

Any suggestions or software to lock the VGA mode would be appreciated.

Thank you
