[comp.os.minix] Graphics kernel for PC?

bunnell@henry.asel.udel.edu (Tim Bunnell) (02/05/90)

Has anyone developed, or is anyone currently developing, a Minix kernel that
runs the PC console in graphics mode? I was starting to write some code for
doing this but want to be sure the job has not already been done!

MGR has been ported from its Sun origins over to Xenix, with
device drivers for IBM devices. Diffs are in the bugs.nosc.mil
archives. The original MGR is on bellcore.com and sometimes
bugs.nosc.mil. These two versions should be a good basis for
a Minix port, if someone puts together a mouse driver.

If the saying is true "MGR is to X as Unix is to Multics",
then a Minix windowed graphical user interface is almost
certainly going to be MGR-based.
