There have been three messages recently about problems assembling Elvis, so I suppose a net post is worthwhile. I put together versions 1 and 2 on an XT with 640K of memory and a 130K ramdisk, under Minix 1.5.0. The trick is to compile Elvis with the given makefile (you have to chmem at least one of the compiler passes) and then delete the executable. (Version 1 crashed in asld before producing an executable, but version 2 produced a duff executable without complaint of any sort. On my machine it had a stack size of -32100 bytes (ie. negative), which chmem wouldn't touch.) Then reassemble all the .s files using either a command line prompt, or if you haven't the energy, a shell script just for the asld command. Don't ask me why this works. Good luck - Will.
