Help! I've just bought a 386SX drop-in motherboard to replace my 10MHx XT board, and it works fine for DOS, but Minix refuses to boot. I've narrowed it down to the Hard Disk Controller, as Minix floppy boots without it. If anybody could help solve my problem, I'd be very much obliged! The hardware configuration is: Old XT board: 10MHx 8088 + 640K RAM, DTK/ERSO BIOS New 386 board: 20MHx 386SX + 2M RAM, Phoenix 386 BIOS, `CHIPS' chipset Hard Drive: Seagate ST238R, 615 cyls, 4 heads, 25 sct/trk in RLL mode Adaptec ACB-2072 RLL controller, used in XT I've tried Minix with all the wini drivers, below are the results. In each case I've used a stock 1.5.0 XT kernel with the listed wini driver. I've done a `h3' to fsck /dev/hd3, a `rh3' to mount /dev/hd3 as /, and an =. xt_wini.c: General protection process number -9, pc= 0x0007:0x00000CD9 kernel panic: exception in kernel, mm or fs Type any key to reboot at_wini.c: Controller not ready in com_out [machine hangs] ps_wini.c: Can't output command block to winchester controller Can't read partition table in winchester 0 [machine hangs] bios_wini.c: Unexpected interrupt, along vector >=17 process number -6, pc= 0xC800:0x0000011D kernel panic: exception in kernel, mm or fs Type any key to reboot I hope that is enough information to deduce the problem: if you want more please email me at wkt@csadfa.oz.au@munnari.oz.au[@uunet.uu.net]. Thanks in advance, and I hope to get back to upgrading Minix 1.5.x soon! Cheers all, Warren Toomey. Warren Toomey VK2XWT, knight in shining armour.
