Hello! I've finally started on the long upgrade path to 1.5 and beyond. I currently have 1.2 on my hard disk, and am staring at the 1.3 upgrade "kit" which I got from Prentice-Hall. I have the 1.5 stuff from nodak, but that comes MUCH later. Anyway, there are almost no instructions for upgrading from 1.2 to 1.3, but I think these are the things that I need to do: 1. Install the 1.3 files on my Hard disk, and uncompress/unarch them. 2. Install the 1.3 C compiler (or modify CC.C to look for them) 3. Install all the new .H files in /usr/include (by the way, I was missing the sys/*.h files from Prentice-Hall, Think I got them from nodak) 4. Make a 1.3 boot disk from the supplied images 5. Start recompiling everything 6. make new usr, root, and source disks, etc. - are there .proto files for 1.3 anywhere? They don't seem to be included in the kit. 7. Now modify this whole mess to reside on the HD again. 8. Verify CRC's and hope/pray. Am I missing anything? I have several other questions. Is 1.3 very much bigger than 1.2? I noticed that 1.2 claims to be 89K, while 1.3 says it is 116K. Second, how can one upgrade from the PC version of the disks to the AT version (I understand that the PC version will not even boot on an AT). I'm thinking about buying a new AT or 386 to run MINIX. Does Minix support ESDI, or should I stick with ST506 and/or RLL? What about SCSI? Anyway, Thanks for any assistance which you guys can provide. -Scott
