I recently purchased the AT version of Minix 1.3 because I was told I could then upgrade it to 1.5 and run that on my IBM PS/2 Model 50Z. The AT package comes (like all other versions of Minix) with 5 1/4" disks. Having no such drive, I need to, but have been unable to, copy those disks to 3 1/2" disks via copyiipc 5.0 software or card. Though both the card and software happily read the 5 1/4" to 3 1/2" drives, and report 40 tracks both sides read and written, I can't get anywhere with the 3.5" disks than the 5 1/4 distrubution disks. Though the distribution disks don't say one way or the other I assume they are 360's and not 1.2. But I have had more success (+++ Invalid address +++ error versus simply having DOS complain about being unable to read the disk) trying to boot from some kind of AT/386 clone with a 1.2 drive. Is there anyone who has managed to get some version of Minix 1.5 running on their 50Z ? What options do I have now? It is not convienent for me to find anything other than a Model 50Z. I'd rather return these disks and order the tar format stuff. But I have no idea what's on that distribution. Besides, does anyone at P-H know anything about this? Thanks in advance, Jim Peters joshua5@cs.bu.edu
