[comp.os.minix] Expose of Minix Beta Testers

nall@sun8.scri.fsu.edu (John Nall) (03/10/90)

I've seen several news articles which imply that the beta testers
of Minix somehow have goodies other than those distributed to the
net by ast. Well, let me expose the truth, shocking as it may be...
the only difference between what we got and what you guys get is
that some bugs generally get fixed in your version that was found in
ours.

What we DO have is (a) a fairly small group which communicates problems
well, and (b) more or less direct access to the gurus who wrote a lot of
this stuff (Bruce Evans, Frans-the-ST-Man) and some very talented people
who put a lot of volunteer time into debugging code.

If it is any consolation, most of us are having the same problems keeping
up with the multitude of 1.5.x changes as everyone else. I don't know of
ANY beta-tester who has a complete 1.5.5 system at this point ("complete "
being defined as all crc's check with the distributed crc lists).
