[comp.os.minix] modifying tty driver

phil@dprmpt.UUCP (Philip Hall ) (03/19/90)

i currently have minix v1.2 on an xt. soon i will be upgrading to v1.5.5.
i have one problem however, i am visually impaired and must use a speech
device that monitors the display memory addresses, and speaks the appropriate
lines of text. unfortunately, this unit can only handle the
top 24 lines of display memory. minix seems to write to all 47? lines of
memory, so i can not "read" the bootom of display memory.
can any one tell me how i can modify the tty driver so it will not use
lines 25 down?
by the way, i can not modify the speech device at present, it would require
a mod to the firmware, (which i could probably handle) and a
mod to the hardware (pcb) to monitor the rest of display memory.
the board "copies" display memory into its own address space.

thanks for any help...
