I seem to have missed something in upgrading to 1.5.5. Several weeks ago I got the 6 upgrade files for 1.5.5 from the net, proceded to begin upgrading. Of course, as reported by others, I could not patch the kernel because I was patching against the 1.5.0 kernel and (according to conventional netwisdom) the patches sent out were against 1.5.3. So I waited. I picked up two other files include_00 and minix_0/1 and have taken care of that....but I still haven't seen any reference recently to how to patch the 1.5.5 kernel. What did I miss? Has there been a corrected kernel patch sent out? If so, where can I find it? (What ftp, what file?) I need to be able to patch against the 1.5.0 kernel. Help. One more request. If there is a kermit guru out there that can answer some questions about how I can get kermit to do something, anything! please contact me so I can send you some details of my struggles. term works fine. Many thanks in advance. tom mccabe tm03@swtexas.bitnet

The following monday, Bruce Evans posted the kernel patches with the title "1.5.5 7 of 6", which I promptly saved as part 7. When I uudecoded everything, the correct kernel patches were missing. Only later did I realize that I did have them, but they were appended to the file that contained include_00, so the kernel patches did not get decoded. See if the same thing happened to you. If not, see if the article is still on your system. If not, use the titles above when you go shopping. Was anyone else stung by this? -- Charles Keith Hewlett-Packard Co.
