[net.unix-wizards] Unix book

thomas (08/13/82)

Today in the bookstore I saw book purporting to be an introduction to
the Unix system ("System III compatible") by Rebecca Thomas, PhD and
Jean Yates. Has anybody read this book? Is it any good? I don't want
to lay out $16 for a lemon (especially after reading the review about
Gauthier's book).

"A User Guide to the Unix System" by Thomas and Yates is a good, but
low-level intro to Unix. It covers the most commonly used (by
non-programmers) commands under vanilla Version 7 Unix. It is accurate
and relatively easy to use (in contrast to Gauthier's book).
