[comp.os.minix] ST 1.5.{6,8,9,10}?, and: problems with 1.5.5, and: signal went wrong!

FM%DACTH51.BITNET@cunyvm.cuny.edu (05/10/90)

Hi there!

1) Do there exist Upgrade kits for Minix-ST 1.5.{6,8,9,10}? I arrived at
1.5.5 so far, all my crc's match, nearly anything compiles fine. (Running
is another thing, see below.) I saved lots of 1.5.{6,8,9,10} postings from
ast for PCs, but only one bugfix-posting for the ST from someone different
than Frans. Don't any "official" postings (by Frans) exist? If they do, where
can I get them?

2) I have 1.5.5 up and running, and most things are fine, but
  a) nroff dumps a core when started -- independent from arguments etc.
  b) elvis coredumps too - this was the first time I tried to compile elvis.
However, mdb seems to run, so there might be a chance 8^)
  c) ps doesn't work - it aborts with "can't read kernel namelist: no such
file or directory". Before this happens, ps does 2 (seemingly unsuccessful)
calls to nlist with "/usr/src/kernel/kernel.mix" as first argument, and this
file exists and is readable. I linked the kernel with -s option, too. Doesn't
change anything. I renamed it to kernel to see if maybe the processor flag
was set falsely in config.h - no change!

3) I use to compile running "make" or a shellscript asynchronous. What do
you think "make" does when I try to cancel a foreground process using
the DEL key??? I guess, background jobs shouldn't die on DEL! I asked a
UNIX wizard which processes should get a signal on ^C in V7, and from the
answer I conclude that either sh is the culprit by not starting asynchronous
processes ignoring signals, but then cc would listen to DEL, too, or make
itself reorganizes it's signal handler ignoring the previous state of the
signal handler. Does anybody know exactly what happens in Minix?
