I am having some problems with the virtual console. Sometimes, I get colons ( : ) replaced by nulls (^@). I can tell because if I redirect output to a file, the missing characters appears as a ^@ when I edit the file. Related to this, if I use pdtar to extract tar files, sometimes characters in the extracted files are changed from colons to nulls and the files are corrupted. The tar for minix doesn't seem to have this problem. I am also having problems with elle. When TERM=minix-vcam, elle complains that terminal lacks cursor addressing or clear the screen. The termcap includes both of these. if TERM=minix, it works okay. The only difference between minix and the rest (minix-vc, minix-am, minix-vcam) are additional capabilities. Has anyone else had this problem? I currently have four virutal consoles enabled. When I run the ps for the virtual console, t1 through t3 show up in the display, but t4 and t65 show up as a '?'. Even after rebooting, this persists. Any suggestions or explanations would be appreciated. All the crcs checked before and after making the changes. -- Eric M. There was a small change to ps between 1.5.6 and 1.5.10 to handle ttys with large minor numbers. A couple of login accounting programs, such as `last' are still confused by large minor numbers. -- Bruce Evans evans@ditsyda.syd.dit.csiro.au
